WHAT: The PhD Challenge is an innovation contest. It provides a great exposure for PhD students and young graduates in Europe for demonstrating their talents and teamwork abilities in front of leading global corporations. The PhD Challenge sponsors will also compose the jury.
WHY: The PhD Challenge will allow you to compete in teams in front of distinguished international business and research communities over prizes of 15000 Euros. Through the competition, contestants will be able to demonstrate their innovation skills and develop relationship with PhD Talent corporate partners. Indeed, it is not only a great networking opportunity with private companies; and also a fun event to share an extraordinary experience with fellow PhDs across Europe.
WHO: PhD candidates and young graduates* (limited to two years after graduation)
WHERE: Ecole de Chimie, ParisTech – on campus Quartier Latin in the 5th arrondissement, Paris. The site is 5-minute walk to Sorbonne university buildings, Pantheon, Jardin du Luxembourg, etc. Plus, there will be the most exciting early summer event in France – “La Fete de la Musique”, which inserts even more romantic elements in the city of love.
WHEN: The PhD Challenge will be conducted throughout the nearly four months of spring semester 2011 in three stages (see the chart below).

HOW:
PhD candidates & young graduates register on The PhD Challenge website starting from 01/03 for a specific problem and will access to an exclusive online community where candidates can form/or participate in multi-disciplinary teams. All teams should respect corporate partner requirements which are listed in details on the sidebar of registration page. An online pre-selection will be organized in the late week of April.
Only pre-selected teams will be invited to compete at a two-day event in Paris. All corporate partners will elaborate on the problems with key points on the first day; and each team will have 48 hours to submit their most creative solutions.
Three teams with the highest score will compete at the Grand Final. Each team will be asked to make an oral presentation in front of a jury composed by PhD Talent partners.
A gala ceremony will be held in a mysterious location. The winning team will be awarded “The PhD Challenge Award” and the members will share the prize of 15000€. Both runners-up team members can also share prizes of 5000€.
